The Dare County Board of Commissioners wants to impose a permanent tax hike on private property owners in Avon to fund a beach nourishment project on land that’s owned by the U.S. federal government in order to help protect NC-12, a highway that’s owned by the state of North Carolina.

Shouldn't the U.S. federal government or the state of North Carolina pay for that?

Property owners from Buxton, Frisco, Hatteras and the tri-villages all use Highway NC-12 to drive through Avon.  So why does the Dare County Board of Commissioners want to impose a permanent property tax increase only on Avon property owners to help protect Highway NC-12?

Does that seem fair to you?

Want to know how you can help stop

these unfair property tax hikes?
